Neil Aspin says defence must communicate better
Port Vale manager Neil Aspin says that his defenders must communicate better if the side is to tighten up at the back.
Vale conceeded a late goal against Crewe on Easter Monday and Aspin says that the goal was down to “decision making and talking.”
There has been a lack of talking ever since I took over here in terms of the players on the pitch. You can’t play football if you don’t open your mouth….
The Valiants have a youthful defence and one that has, with the exception of Nathan Smith, been subject to many changes in personel over the season.
Speaking to the media Aspin commented: “There has been a lack of talking ever since I took over here in terms of the players on the pitch. You can’t play football if you don’t open your mouth. People were out of position and that is down to decision making and talking.
“It is a skill that normally comes a bit later probably than when you are a young player. But, especially if you are a defender, you cannot play football if you don’t open your mouth because it is all about communication and getting players in the right positions.
“If you do that then you will see the game out.”
