Who was the Port Vale mascot?
Boomer was the Port Vale mascot for over twenty years. A Staffordshire Terrier, he was particularly beloved of young Vale fans who would eagerly await his appearance around the Vale Park stadium.
Who was in the Boomer costume?
Gavin Yorke donned the costumer for many years. He was assisted by his late father Erroll Yorke, who was affectionately known as “Boomer’s Dad” The pair made regular appearances to support schools, hospitals and charities as well as handing out loads of sweets at the Port Vale FC home games.
Why was he called Boomer?
He was probably called “Boomer” in response to a popular terrace chant at the time. Set to the tune “Boom, boom, shake the room” the refrain of “Boom, boom super Vale” could be heard on the terraces at the time of Boomer’s emergence.
Where is Boomer now?
Sadly, in 2020 Gavin Yorke was forced to give up the role due to ill health. He will be greatly missed by all Port Vale fans.
