Where are they now: Francisco Junior
The former Everton man had a luckless Vale spell but he’s now moved North and earned an International cap…
Prior to Vale
The midfielder was signed from Benfica by Everton in 2012 despite interest from rivals Manchester City. He had spells on loan at Vitesse Arnhem and Strømsgodset.
His Vale spell
Junior joined Vale on loan in January 2015 in a deal that would last until the end of the season. His debut was an away fixture against Leyton Orient but when keeper Chris Neal was dismissed on 51 minutes it was Junior who was replaced by sub keeper Sam Johnson. It proved to be his only action as injury caused his loan spell to come to an end.
Post Vale
In August 2015 Junior signed on loan with Wigan Athletic making twelve appearances and scoring once. He returned to Everton but in February 2016, he signed a two-year contract with Norwegian side Strømsgodset. He made 24 appearances last season and earned a call-up to the full Guinea-Bissau squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He made his debut on the opening match of the tournament, in a 1–1 draw with hosts Gabon on 14 January 2017.
