Aspin admits interest in non-league midfielder but January move is unlikely
Port Vale manager Neil Aspin has said he admires Gateshead midfielder Luke Hannant but says a January move would be unlikely.
Aspin knows Hannant well from his Gateshead managerial spell. He took Norwich-born Hannant to Gateshead on a non-contract basis after the youngster had been playing in the Northern League.
He has been in my thoughts possibly since I left Gateshead…
Aspin told the media: “He has been in my thoughts possibly since I left Gateshead, but I have a good relationship with Gateshead and the chairman. I don’t really want to be taking players off them.
“If we were to sign him now we would have to pay a transfer fee. He would be out of contract at the end of the season so is maybe someone we can wait on. But then you are running the risk that, if he does well, other clubs might be alerted as well.”
The midfielder has played 24 games for National League side Gateshead this season, scoring twice.
