Match report: Port Vale 4-0 Luton Town
Tom Pope scored twice and man of the match Ben Whitfield another as Port Vale put leaders Luton Town to the sword on Saturday afternoon.
Vale were worthy winners as they made a mockery of the league table.
Vale took the lead in the first-half after confusion in the penalty area saw the ball deflected in via a Luton player.
Vale took their goal advantage into the second period where excellent work from Whitfield set up Pope to score a well-worked second goal.
The Valiants never stopped running and their harassment paid dividends as a Luton mistake saw Pope set up Whitfield for the third.
The fourth arrived when Pope’s effort was deemed to cross the line and Vale had secured a memorable home victory over the runaway leaders. It was a brilliant end to an often troubling 2017.
