Bournemouth have their say on Ben Whitfield’s Vale return
Parent club AFC Bournemouth have told Port Vale how much football loanee Ben Whitfield can play, says Vale boss Neil Aspin.
Earlier in the week Aspin has indicated that he believed Whitfield to be in contention for a place (probably on the bench) in Vale’s squad for Saturday’s game.
It is very disappointing. If he was our own player then we would be in a position where I would have certainly played him today…
The forward had impressed and was widely regarded as one of the Vale’s best players before he picked up an ankle injury six weeks ago.
However, after the disappointing 1-1 FA Cup second round draw with Yeovil Aspin told the media: “The situation with Ben Whitfield is that I couldn’t play him today because Bournemouth wouldn’t let him play.
“They wouldn’t let him play and they have said that he can only play for 20 minutes in the next game, and if we don’t obviously abide by what they say then they will recall him.
“So, it is very disappointing. If he was our own player then we would be in a position where I would have certainly played him today. I would have brought him on as sub. It is disappointing, I am really disappointed.”
