Match report: Lincoln City 3-1 Port Vale
Midfielder Danny Pugh scored his first goal for the club but it was not enough as Lincoln scored three times against the Vale.
Neil Aspin made two changes bringing Antony Kay and Cristian Montano into the side. However, it was the home side who had the first real chance with Ginnelly’s shot hitting the post in the opening minutes. However, it didn’t take long for the hosts to find the target as Matt Green’s free header found the net with ten minutes played.
The home side were in charge and creating plenty of pressure but Vale still had chances, notably one for full-back James Gibbons whose shot hit the bar in the closing stages of the first-half. Moments later, Pope’s towering header was cleared off the line. And on the eve of the interval, Worral broke and Pope’s header found Danny Pugh who duly netted his first goal for the club.
However, Lincoln retook the lead eight minutes into the second-half as Bostwick’s effort went in via the post. The home side also had appeals for a penalty turned down as Vale responded by bringing on Forrester for Harness.
Lincoln wrapped up the victory on 73 minute as Luke Waterfall netted from a Neil Eardley cross. Rhead then almost made it four but Pope cleared off the line. It means Vale have now conceded seven goals in two games and makes it clear what a tough task it will be for Neil Aspin to steer the side clear of the dropzone.
