Gateshead statement suggests Neil Aspin will be next Port Vale manager
A statement posted on the official Gateshead FC website suggests Port Vale are on the brink of naming legend Neil Aspin as the club’s new manager.
The statement reads:
In light of the ongoing speculation surrounding Gateshead manager Neil Aspin, we can confirm that discussions regarding his future at the club are ongoing
As a result, assistant manager Lee Nogan will take charge of the side at AFC Fylde this evening. “A further statement will be made in due course.
Aspin’s move to Vale has been the subject of some confusion. In recent days, the Sentinel newspaper quoted club sources saying Aspin was the favourite only for club owner Norman Smurthwaite to contact the newspaper and accuse it of printing “lies.”
Asspin is the bookies’ favourite for the role and is held in high regard by the Vale fans for his long service as a Valiants player.
