Match report: Stevenage 2-0 Port Vale
Vale’s winless run stretched to eleven games as the Valiants slumped to a poor away defeat to Stevenage.
Port Vale’s caretaker management team made two changes bringing Michael Tonge and Anthony De Freitas back into the starting line-up.
However, the Valiants were far too one dimensional and relying on long balls to Pope and Barnett. Tom Anderson was lucky not to be dismissed for holding back a Stevenage player before Danny Newton deservedly put the home side ahead after 22 minutes. Stevenage were well on top for the remainder of the first-half as Vale struggled to create a meaningful chance.
The second-half continued in much the same manner with Stevenage well on top. Roos nearly gifted the home side a second with an error but moments later Jonathan Smith made it two on the 55 minute mark. It should have been three goals on the hour but Pett missed an easy chance.
Vale sent on Dan Turner and Marcus Harness with half an hour left but it was too little too late as Vale made it eleven games without a win.
