Luton fans: we expect to get promotion this season
In our second opposing views of the season, three Luton Town fans are aiming high for their side.
Thanks to REP for interviewing three fans from lutontownforum.net
About the fans
SPIX – I’m 76 years of age and have supported Luton since the age of eight. I was born in the town but have lived in Norfolk now for 51 years. I still manage to get to a few games each season and was at Lincoln last Saturday. I’m married and have two daughters and a grandson.
HATTERSUSSEX – I am 79 years of age, married to Jean, who goes to the games with me. I started supporting Luton Town when I moved to the town in 1980, it happened to be where my work took me. My first game was a cracker against West Ham, and I have been hooked ever since.
MADPIG – I’m 65, an original ‘ Luton nutter.’ My first game was against West Brom in 1958.
How will Luton do?
SPIX – Anything less than promotion will be seen as failure. I honestly think we will finish as champions.
HATTERSUSSEX – I never expect anything really, but I hope we finish in a top three position… we have the support and infrastructure that really demands at least League One status, and with a new stadium hopefully ready by 2020, I along with most fans would hope to be in the Championship by then.
MADPIG – Promotion, preferably top.
How is the manager doing?
SPIX – I am not entirely convinced by Nathan Jones, I dislike his preference for the diamond formation. He signed a lot of players after last season, ten I think and sold a few also. I have to praise his business though as he has made a considerable profit for the club with his dealings. Danger players? Definitely Danny Hylton and if he recovers from injury, James Collins plus Luke Berry from midfield.
HATTERSUSSEX – I love the passion shown by Nathan Jones, but as yet I am not convinced that he will deliver! I tend to think he signs too many similar players, and not necessarily the type of player one needs to fight your way out of this division… but that is probably a harsh statement, so early in the season.
MADPIG – Jones is a young Jack the Lad. He talks the talk, now we’ll see if he walks the walk?

How is the board doing?
SPIX – The club has had a torrid time over the decades with dodgy owners some of whom had little interests in the football side and were only concerned with asset stripping. We now have a board made up entirely of fans who are also successful businessmen, known as “2020”. We are awaiting a planning application decision on a new ground in the centre of town, initially a 17,500 all seater stadium with potential to increase as and when needed to 30,000, the land has already been purchased by 2020 and we also have a spanking new training facility as good as any Championship club.
HATTERSUSSEX – Our current board saved the club in our darkest days after a thirty point deduction guaranteed our drop into the Conference. They are committed fans of the club and have, so far, invested huge sums of money to buy two blocks of land in Luton… one area to build a new top market shopping and retail venue plus office blocks and a new large hotel, the other central area to accommodate a brand new Stadium, including a theatre, restuarants and re-sculpturing the area to allow the river Lee to be enjoyed again, and much needed housing.
MADPIG – The board are tops.
Tell us what Vale fans may NOT know about Luton?
SPIX – The away section is accessed through the back gardens of local housing by way of steel steps. We hold the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single match, Joe Payne, who scored ten goals decades ago in a game against Bristol Rovers.
HATTERSUSSEX – The only quirky thing I can think off is the ground – it’s a step back in time especially the Oak Road end from the turnstiles to the stand!
MADPIG – We play the ‘diamond.’
What’s your score prediction?
SPIX – 2-0 win for the Hatters, with goals from Hylton and Berry.
HATTERSUSSEX – I reckon we will win 2-0. Scorers could be Hylton, Collins, and possibly Potts from a corner or Sheehan from a free-kick.
MADPIG – 5-0 to Luton. Scorers – Hylton, Collins, Shinnie, Cornick
