Pope scores as Port Vale draw with West Brom
A late Tom Pope goal gave Port Vale a draw against Premier League West Brom in Tuesday night’s friendly at Vale Park.
The Valiants named both Anton Forrester and Adam Yates, who were both returning from injury, in their starting line-up but it was midfielder Anthony De Freitas who had several first-half chances.
However, the visitors took the lead just before the break through Welsh International Hal Robson-Kanu.
In the second-half Robson-Kanu had another chance as both sides made several changes. One of those was to prove crucial as Yates’ late cross was headed in by substitute Tom Pope to earn Vale a well-earned draw.
Vale: Boot (Hornby), Gibbons (Kay), Yates, Smith (Gunning), Davis, Harness (Kelly), Calveley, Reeves (Tonge), De Freitas (Pugh), Forrester, (Pyke) Turner (Pope)
Attendance: 1,783 (350 visitors)
