Michael Brown condemns ‘extremely stupid’ Vale player after red card

Michael Brown has called summer signing Gavin Gunning “extremely stupid” for his sending-off against Leeds Utd on Wednesday.

Gunning was shown a second yellow card when he barged into a showboating Leeds player in the closing minutes of Vale’s League Cup defeat. He was sent-off and earned a one-match ban in the process.

Brown told the media: “It was extremely stupid and he knows that . I just don’t think it was proving anything, it was just making my decision easier on Saturday that I play Tyler Denton.

“Gav’s done alright in parts. He has done well really over two games, especially the first-half [at Leeds] and at Crawley. He is certainly a battler but you have to control that.

“There is a fine line. I think it was a good yellow card in the first half because he delayed the opposition, but you know then you are on a tightrope. I told him at half time and to do that right at the end… he just misses a game.”
