Port Vale’s Dutch defender Kjell Knops has received a huge setback in his bid to recover from injury after Michael Brown revealed the defender would miss the entire season.

Brown told the Sentinel newspaper: “We won’t see him this season. He has had a major setback and it is very unfortunate for the boy. He’d had an operation and we would maybe have had him back in February.
“But now it is much worse. The boy is still in hospital, he has a severe infection and has had to have more surgery.
“He is a great lad first and foremost. He wants to join in, do well and work hard for the club. Straight away when he had his operation he wanted to work. The chances of an infection, and then a re-occuring infection are very low. But they have had to go back in and operate.
