Former Valiant John McCombe switches to Chester
In a story chock-full of Vale connections, former Port Vale defender John McCombe has moved from Macclesfield Town to Chester.
The big defender played 211 times for Vale over a five year period before leaving in 2013.
McCombe was a regular in the Macc defence last season, often partnering former Valiant George Pilkington at the back.
McCombe was offered a new deal in the summer but he says he was impressed by Chester boss Jon McCarthy, himself a former Valiant and has opted to move to Chester instead.
McCombe told the media: “The manager phoned me and I was really impressed with what he was saying about the club.”
The defender could also link up with released Ryan Lloyd who had a spell on loan with Chester and is widely expected to join the club following his release by the Valiants.
