Wimbledon fan: finishing in the top-half would be a fantastic achievement
Fan Rob Smith gives us the lowdown on his club – AFC Wimbledon – who are Vale’s next opponents…
Thanks to REP for posing the questions
About the fan…
“I began following the Dons when I was transferred to London for work from Australia and by chance moved to Wimbledon at the time the Dons came into the Football League in 1977… the rest as they say is history…”
How do you expect your team to do this season?
Virtually all us we expecting the Dons to struggle in League One and at best secure enough points to stay there… the boys have far exceeded our expectations. If they finish above 12th that would be a terrific outcome.
What are your thoughts on the manager?
Neal Ardley holds legendary status among Dons supporters. He’s a former youth team player who played in the first-team before the hijack to Milton Keynes. He came back to AFC Wimbledon as manager and kept the club up in the League Two on the final day in his first season as the gaffer. The team has grown in stature from there with Ardley at the helm.
The players to watch?
Tom Elliott and Lyle Taylor up front and the energetic midfielder Jake Reeves.
A score prediction?
2-1 to the Dons (Elliott and Taylor) with around 350 travelling supporters
Tell us something we may not know about Wimbledon?
The fans and volunteer run the club with one of the smallest playing budgets in League. We are playing away from our natural home at Kingsmeadow but a move back to Plough Lane is in full swing.
