Chesterfield fan: the sooner the season ends, the better
Fan Jack Baur gives us the lowdown on his club – Chesterfield – who are Vale’s next opponents…
Thanks to REP for posing the questions
Do you think Vale can break their poor away form? If they do, can they stay up? If they don’t will they be struggling? Why not visit Footballpredictions.com and find out what the experts think on all the big football games.
About the fan…
“I began watching Chesterfield in January 1981 as a six year-old, I sat in the away stand for some reason I still don’t fully know, and in my first game we lost 1-0 to Charlton, I remember very little about it except Charlton wore yellow. I have been a regular ever since. I have lived in the town for most of my life. I’ve held a season ticket on and off, mainly due to other commitments but I get to most home games and the odd away game each season….”
How do you expect your team to do this season?
We are second bottom of league one and in all honesty we only have Coventry to thank for that. We have been a shambles on and off the field all season. In the summer I expected that we would be bottom-half of the table but didn’t quite expect this disaster. We will finish bottom in my opinion and the sooner the season ends, the better.
What are your thoughts on the manager?
I will try to be polite here. When appointed we were fifth from bottom and struggling, so you can understand why a change could have been needed. However since Caldwell arrived we’ve gone from bad to worse. We were in a relegation scrap,Caldwell came in and tried to experiment with a new system of three at the back which didn’t work and has continued to not work. His signings have been dreadful, tactics dreadful, relationships with fans dreadful, substitutions dreadful, use of what he had available, dreadful. So far it has been an awful appointment.
The players to watch?
Hmmm, a difficult one. We have recently let youngster Joe Rowley start a couple of games, he looks a decent prospect for us. Generally speaking we don’t have a lot of players that can be considered danger players, Dennis has an eye for goal, McGinn and Hird are steady.
A score prediction?
I predict a 0-0 draw in front of 5,300.
Any views on players to appear for both clubs?
Sam Morsy is the best player we have had in a long time, he was awesome for us and we have yet to recover his departure. Last year he dragged the rest of the team through the first-half of the season under Saunders, I believe we would have gone down last season but for Sam.
Any pre-match recommendations for the travelling fans?
Chesterfield is friendly, provided opposition fans are too. You can’t beat the Derby Tup for a drink, on the other side of the ground is the Donkey Derby if you want to eat.
