Where is the Port Vale home attendance record?
The official record attendance at the Vale Park stadium is 49,768 for an FA Cup fifth round game against Aston Villa on the 20th February 1960. The game ended as a 2-1 win for Aston Villa with striker Cliff Portwood scoring the Port Vale consolation goal. However, it may be that more fans attended a 1964 FA Cup tie against Liverpool. The official attendance for that game was 42,179 but Liverpool fans broke down the gates and the media reported as least “6,000” more fans also got into the ground.

The official record attendance for a Football League match played at the Vale Park stadium is 40,066 for a game against neighbours Stoke City on the 25th April 1955. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Stoke City.
What about the record attendance at the Old Recreation Ground stadium?
Prior to their move to the Vale Park stadium, the club played at the Old Recreation Ground in Hanley. The Old Recreation Ground’s record attendance came on the 6th March 1920 for a match against local neighbours Stoke City. The match ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Valiants.
