Ribeiro was appointed on a two-year contract in the summer but resigned on Boxing Day 2016. On his appointment Smurthwaite commented that ” I was duped and really sorry where that leaves us.”
Rob Page was his third choice
Page was Ribeiro’s predecessor at Vale Park but Smurthwaite says the former coach was only his third choice. He added: “My first and second choice did not come off when MA left so I gave the job to RP and after he kept us up felt a sense of loyalty until Exeter …”
On Michael Brown
Brown is interim manager and Smurthwaite said the situtation was similar to that of Rob Page. He commented: “MB is similar to RP as many of the candidates were/are waiting for that Championship offer…”
