Match report: Port Vale 0-3 Peterborough Utd
Port Vale 0-3 Peterborough: Goalkeeper Leonardo Fasan saved a penalty on debut but it was to no avail as Port Vale lost at home to Peterborough.
Caretaker manager Michael Brown made three changes including debuts for Fasan and winger Olamide Shopido and a welcome return for Sam Foley. Former Vale midfielder Anthony Grant lined up for Peterborough.
The first real chance of the first-half came on eighteen minutes when Marcus Maddison was fouled in the box. He picked himself up to take the spot-kick but Fasan pulled off a superb save. However, just ninety seconds later, Maddison was on hand to give the visitors the lead from open play.
Foley was impressing on his return but Vale’s midfield was in danger of being overrun as Peterborough looked to double their lead. The home side were restricted to first-half efforts from newcomer Shopido and JJ Hooper plus a corner which forced a fine save from the Posh keeper.
In the second period Vale brought on Chris Eagles and debutant Danny Pugh and Eagles had a chance seconds after taking the field. The Valiants were increasing throwing caution to the wind but without creating any clearcut chances.
The game was sealed with five minutes remaining as Junior Morais netted and sparked a mass exodus of home supporters. The away side then put the icing on the cake with a third goal in the dying moments as Vale made it just one win in the last eleven games.
