Match report: Oldham 0-0 Port Vale
Vale will be grateful for some great goalkeeping from Jak Alnwick as caretaker boss Michael Brown remained unbeaten after a goalless draw at Oldham.
Brown named the same starting eleven that beat Chesterfield with Alex Jones still ruled out through illness.
Vale were pinned back throughout the first-half but some resolute defending plus a couple of good saves from Alnwick stopped the home side taking the lead. Despite being penned back, Vale had the best chance of the half when Sam Kelly’s tremendous drive went close.
It was similar fare in the second-half with the home side putting Vale under pressure. Oldham should have taken the lead on 75 minutes but Alnwick pulled off a fantastic save from a header to keep it goalless. Five minutes later, Alnwick made another great save to thwart the home side.
Vale’s best effort was a Ryan Taylor free-kick late on but the home keeper pulled off a good save. However, in the closing minutes the Valiants were again grateful for another brilliant Alnwick save as it ended goalless and Michael Brown’s unbeaten run as caretaker was stretched to two matches.
