Michael Brown hails professional Vale for hard-fought win
Caretaker manager Michael Brown praised his side’s “game management” as he marked his first game in charge with a win.
Brown’s side narrowly defeated Chesterfield 1-0 thanks to a Jerome Thomas winner.

After the match Brown told the media: “It was just great – it is something I have looked forward to for a long time, leading a team out and being manager at the front.
“It was slightly nervy because it is all on your shoulders, but I have enjoyed that with the rest of the staff that have been here. They have all been extremely supportive and the players have taken on board, in a short period of time, what we are looking to do.
“We are trying to increase energy levels, be more dynamic and just try to change the style – and how to win a game.
“You could see at the end they were extremely tired but their game management was good. They have seen the game off at the end there and been professional. It was a hard-fought result.”
