Vale coach Andy Smith
Team news
Vale are waiting on the fitness of Sam Foley (above) but the heavy defeat to Sheff Utd may prompt some more changes. Waiting in the wings are Regino Cicilia, Kiko, Quentin Pereira, Chris Mbamba and Dan Turner.
It remains to be seen if injury doubt Jerome Thomas will be fit to face his former club.

Club connections
Striker Andy Jones remains OVF editor Rob Fielding’s favourite Vale player thanks to his outstanding goal scoring exploits for the Valiants. Jones was signed for just £3,000 from Rhyl and after 37 goals in the 1986-87 season he was sold to Charlton for a club record £375,000 fee. Jones did score goals for the then first division side but he didn’t pull up any trees and in 1988 he was loaned back to Vale. His spell saw him net three times as he helped Vale to promotion before returning to the Valley. He left Charlton in 1990 and had further spells with Bournemouth and Leyton Orient.
Vale appearances: 129 games | 65 goals
Other players to appear for both clubs include:
- Defender Kevin Scott

- Defender Jimmy Oakes
- Forward Dany N’Guessan
- Striker Akpo Sodje
- Striker Marcus Bent
