Port Vale 2-2 Oxford fan reaction: a game of two halves, veterans add class, Cicilia shows promise
Port Vale fans have been giving their opinion on Port Vale’s 2-2 home draw with Oxford United on our dedicated match thread.
Here are a selection of opinions:
A game of two halves
We need to improve as we are too slow out of the blocks and have a few too many passengers in the side at times.

If we play like we did first half, were in for a relegation scrap. The difference between the two halves was unbelievable.

The change in tactics and effort to play more quickly, front to back, better supporting the lone striker made a huge difference. It has dragged us back into two recent home games when all seemed lost at half-time and we were expecting a hiding. The change from one half to the next is staggering.

After an abysmal first half, I was totally bewildered after 15 minutes of the second. Didn’t see that coming at all!

Whats going on in first halves? One day we are going to be five down at the break if the level of terrible first-half performances continues.

The first half was probably as bad as anything at Vale Park in the last 20 years. The second half was slightly better. What is discussed at half time that makes them change tactics so that Vale actually give the opposition problems?

Veterans are a class above
Thomas was head and shoulders above anyone else in our squad

Thomas is a class act and miles better than most of his team-mates. He has great awareness and doesn’t give the ball away as many of them do.
TheSage
Thomas was sublime. His work rate and enthusiasm is right up there.
SFBT
Thomas was magnificent I thought his effort ,running and general performance was quality in the second-half .

Ryan Taylor looked a class above and he hasn’t played for ages. At last we have someone who can hit a good dead ball!
DIV3SOUTH
Taylor was very good. Not match fit but no mistakes, solid in possession and both goals came from his set piece, and a decent penalty to go along with it
Hagrid
Thomas is a top notch quality player.
Class personified
Taylor’s quality at dead balls is going be a asset .

We owe a lot to Taylor. He seems to be able to place a ball where he wants it to go and could easily have scored

Cicilia shows promise
I thought Cicilia had a half decent game too. Let’s be fair he puts himself about far more than I’ve seen Paterson do, and as some posters have alluded to he was hopelessly unsupported especially in the first-half, on his own up front and a lack of service to boot. I was pleased for him when he got his goal, yes, he’s far from perfect and at times his touch is dire but there is definitely something there to work with.

Cicilia is an enigma. For his size he could do so much more, yet although some of his moves, control and attempts at heading are comical he does honestly cause mayhem among opponent’s defenders. When he has a half-decent player up front with him we do look as though we are going to score. From most of the chants and remarks at the game yesterday Cecilia could become somewhat of a cult hero! At the very least he is better than Pato.

Cicilia was getting stick in the first-half, just as Paterson has been recently, because he was totally isolated. When he had support from Thomas in the second-half he looked a far better player.

To his credit Cicilia looked much better with someone alongside him, especially as it was Thomas who had a cracking game.

Cicila did well and hopefully the goal will be a starting point for him to kick on from.
