Match report: Port Vale 1-1 Charlton Athletic
Top scorer Alex Jones scored a late penalty as Port Vale came from behind to draw with Charlton Athletic.
Manager Bruno Ribeiro made three changes with Tavares, Mac-Intosch and Pereira in for Amoros, Purkiss and Foley. In a lively start, Vale began brightly but it was the visitors who began to take control with efforts from Holmes and Magennis cleared and a Magennis attempt striking the bar.
Charlton got the goal their possession deserved on 30 minutes when Freddie Ulvestad fired home after good work from Holmes.
The Valiants made a change at half-time with Sam Kelly replacing Martin Paterson but it was the visitors who had the best chance of the second period as Ulvestad went close.
The Valiants were doing better in the second-half and with an hour played, Vale threw on Cicilia in place of Knops. The visitors almost doubled their lead but Alnwick pulled off a fine save before Alex Jones equalised with six minutes left.
Jones drew a foul in the area and the on loan forward made no mistake from the spot to score his eighth goal of the season. The goal set up a frantic finale with chances for both sides.
However, neither side could make their chances pay as it ended in a draw. After a slow start, Vale will be grateful for the display of keeper Jak Alnwick and the scoring prowess of Alex Jones as they picked up what could be a valuable point.
