Match report: Port Vale 0-1 Mansfield Town
Port Vale recorded their second successive home defeat as Mansfield beat them in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Manager Bruno Ribeiro made a number of changes including a first start for goalkeeper Miguel Santos.
In a dull first period, Vale had a good chance for Rigino Cicilia but despite their neat football, the side made few clearcut chances.
Ribeiro made a change at the interval with Tavares replaced by Gezim Shalaj. The sub had the first real chance of the second period with a shot that went over the bar.
Vale had two more chances for Cicilia before Mansfield took the lead with sub Matt Green netting with his first touch. The visitors were then grateful for former Valiant Krystian Pearce who cleared from Nathan Smith in the area.
That was the end of the drama as the visitors held on to record a win. Even though this result was far less important than the Coventry loss, Vale will now have plenty to ponder ahead of the televised clash with Milton Keynes at the weekend.
Attendance: 1,025 (66 visitors)
