Port Vale assistant manager Michael Brown said the team’s performance during their 1-0 home defeat to Mansfield in the Checkatrade Trophy was “extremely disappointing.”
Brown told the media: “It was extremely disappointing, we changed quite a lot of personnel with a view to Sunday, a real tough away game. So, there were lots of changes with giving boys a chance.
“It’s a difficult one. The competition has been put down as such; there are certain benefits to it but we didn’t raise our game towards progressing in the competition. Lots of boys were under par.
“We huffed and puffed with little parts of possession, but towards the end we didn’t really create chances when we tried to put them on the back foot.”
