There is a very good chance of Port Vale holding out for a draw and that could be the bet of the match…
Bolton Wanderers are the form team in League One at present having won their last four games in a row and climbed to second place in the table. This Saturday afternoon at the Macron Stadium, Bolton Wanderers will look to extend that winning sequence in a home game with seventh-placed Port Vale. Unsurprisingly, Bolton are the bookies’ odds-on favourites at 7/10 to claim victory but it may not be as easy as the odds would tend to suggest. Port Vale’s recent results have been disappointing but the team showed good form in the earlier weeks of the season and should give their hosts a hard game. While an away win, priced at 19/5, would seem unlikely there is a very good chance of Port Vale holding out for a draw and that could be the bet of the match at nice odds of 11/4.
Bolton’s record of four straight wins, five if an EFT victory over Blackpool is included, cannot be faulted but the calibre of the opposition in those matches leaves something to be desired. The first two victories came against Swindon Town and Oldham Athletic who currently sit in the bottom five and another win against sixteenth-placed Millwall followed. Probably the best of Bolton’s recent results was last Monday’s 2-0 win away at eleventh-placed Bury but Port Vale should prove more stubborn opponents than any the team have faced in recent weeks. Another problem for Bolton Wanderers is that, although now second in the table, they have one of the lowest goal totals in the top half of the table with just seventeen in fifteen games. One goal would probably be enough to seal victory for either side on Saturday and Zach Clough, with four in his last three matches, is the most likely to score for the home team this weekend.
Having won five of their first ten League One games this season, Port Vale were flying high near the top of the table but recent results have not been quite as good. The last five games have seen Port Vale triumph only once, a narrow 1-0 victory over nineteenth-placed MK Dons, while two games have been drawn and two ended in defeat. Last weekend, Port Vale fought back from 2-0 down at home to mid-table Oxford United to salvage a 2-2 draw and those battling qualities will once again be required in Saturday’s difficult away game. Although he didn’t play in last week’s game, this season’s top scorer Alex Jones should return to the team this weekend and Port Vale will look to the striker to add to his impressive total of eight goals this season.
Despite Bolton Wanderers’ recent excellent record, a tough game can be expected this weekend and one goal could be enough to decide the outcome. Zach Clough is the striker in form for the home team and is the most likely goalscorer..
