Former Port Vale striker Bert Llewellyn passes away
Bert Llewellyn passes away: the former Port Vale striker Bert Llewellyn, has sadly died, aged 77.
About Bert Llewellyn
The prolific forward started his career at Everton in 1956, where he netted twice in eleven appearances, before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 1958. After 55 goals in 106 appearances for the Railwaymen he joined Port Vale in 1960 for a fee of £7,000.
He boasted an impressive goalscoring record for the Valiants with 50 goals in 103 games. He scored on his debut and two hat-tricks in his first season with the club. He finished the 1960–61 season with 20 goals in 32 appearances. His second season was equally prolific as he scored 20 goals in 50 games and also netted his third hat-trick for the club.
However, the striker was not part of new manager Freddie Steele’s plans and in February 1963 he was sold to Northampton Town for £7,000.
He had later spells playing for Walsall and Wigan Athletic. Hugely prolific at the Latics he hit five goals on two separate occasions, hit four goals in three other games, and also claimed a total of six hat-tricks. He finished his playing career with a tally of 254 goals in 424 games.
Bert Llewellyn passes away. RIP forever Valiant.
