Smurthwaite: Vale missed out on signing Leon Best
Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite has tweeted to say that Port Vale have missed out on signing striker Leon Best.
The Valiants were looking for a striker to replace the departed Carlos Saleiro and Best had been linked with the club prior to Smurthwaite’s tweets.
The 29 year-old has scored 63 goals in 300 appearances including spells with Newcastle Utd and Coventry City but has been without a club since being released at the end of last season.
In a reply to a question from a fan Smurthwaite has said that Vale have missed out on signing Best although it is unclear how Vale have missed out – it could be due to wages, another club signing the forward or Vale/the player pulling out of the deal.
The tweet reads:
Leon Best
