Port Vale owner denies Guardian’s Neil Redfearn claim
Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite has tweeted to deny claims in the Guardian newspaper that Neil Redfearn was offered the Port Vale job.
In a column in Saturday’s edition of the newspaper titled “Paul Pogba and Adnan Januzaj are two sides of the same coin” journalist Daniel Taylor wrote that – “Then there is the story that reached me earlier in the summer about the vacancy for a new Port Vale manager. Neil Redfearn was interviewed and Port Vale, mid-table finishers in League One, liked what they saw. The talks broke down when Redfearn heard the salary was £40,000 a year – less than the kit man might earn at many Premier League clubs.”
However, Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite denies any knowledge of meeting Redfearn or offering him a salary of £40,000.
He tweeted:
You know when you are getting old when you cannot recall meeting or offering a Managers job to someone & in turn offering him salary of 40k
