Rumour: Port Vale to sign Benfica goalkeeper?
Reports in the Portuguese media suggest Port Vale will be signing Benfica goalkeeper Miguel Santos on loan.
It would appear to be an unusual signing with Vale well-stocked with goalkeepers – with Jak Alnwick, Ryan Boot and Harry Pickering available and Sam Johnson on loan at Gateshead. Perhaps this move will see the likes of Pickering and Boot go out on loan to get more first-team experience?
However, the Record website says that 21 year-old Santos has travelled to Burslem and will be officially unveiled in the next few days.
Santos has been a regular in the Benfica B side making 50 appearances. Earlier this month Vale played Benfica in a behind closed doors friendly but it was not disclosed if Santos played in that game. And after that game Smurthwaite tweeted:
looks like that sweety jar and pen coming out again.Must be the sun
