Alnwick: Big things to come from Boot

Port Vale’s first-choice goalkeeper Jak Alnwick says that understudy Ryan Boot will push him all the way this season.

Alnwick is the club’s undisputed number one after Chris Neal left for Fleetwood in the summer but in Ryan Boot and Harry Pickering, Vale have two youngsters who are expected to be challenging for a first-team place in the future.

Alnwick told BBC Radio Stoke: “Nealey pushed me the whole way last year but Ryan Boot will do the same – I’ve still got to keep looking over my shoulder and working hard.

“Ryan’s progressed very well, I think there’s big things to come from him.”
