Jose Morais is new bookies’ favourite for Port Vale job
Following the news that Jose Mourinho contacted Norman Smurthwaite to recommend a new manager for the club, Jose Morais has been made odds-on favourite by two bookies.
Sky Bet and Bet Victor both make Morais their current favourite for the job.
The news follows a report in the Daily Mail explaining that Jose Mourinho had recommended a Portuguese coach to the Valiants.
Mourinho and Morais first met at Benfica in 2000 and Mourinho has employed Morais at both Chelsea and Real Madrid.
The list of bookies’ favourites for the job now contains some distinctly unusual contenders. Sky Bet have Rui Faria, Jaap Staam, Nuno Valente and Maniche as possible contenders while Bet Victor think Glenn Hoddle and Paolo di Canio could also be in contention.
Who is Jose Morais?
The 50 year-old had a brief playing career before moving into coaching. He is currently coach of Turkish side Antalyaspor after previous spells with Al-Shabab, Esperance and as coach of the Yeman national team. He has also been assistant to Mourinho at Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Morais boasts some impressive career stats with a win ratio in the 70% region at Esperance and Al-Shabab and a 44% win ratio with Antalyaspor.
