Former players: Macc duo commit as Mohamed leaves
It’s set to be another busy summer of player moves and here is a brief update on the fortunes of some former Valiants.
Macclesfield – former Vale duo sign-up
Former Port Vale centre-halves George Pilkington and John McCombe have both extended their stay at the Moss Rose. Pilkington, 34, has signed a new contract while the club have taken up an option to extend McCombe’s contract for a further season.
Eastleigh release Mohamed
There’s less good news for former Vale winger Kaid Mohamed. The wideman infamously spent most of his two years with Vale out on loan but he joined Eastleigh in October and hit the headlines when he scored in Eastleigh’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Bolton Wanderers. However, Mohamed is one of nine players to be released by the National League outfit.
McCarthy becomes Chester boss
Former caretaker manager Jon McCarthy has been confirmed as Chester FC’s next manager. McCarthy joins Neil Aspin in becoming a former Vale player currently managing in the National League. We wish Jon all the very best!
Lawrie offered new deal
Altrincham have offered former Vale striker James Lawrie a new contract. Altrincham were relegated from the National League this season and former Vale boss Lee Sinnott has now been replaced by Neil Young as manager.
