Well, there’s going to be a few of those… Port Vale boast former Alex players AJ Leitch-Smith, Anthony Grant, Michael O’Connor, Byron Moore and (youth teamer) Adam Yates. Vale’s Colin Daniel, currently on loan at Mansfield Town, is also a former Crewe man.
Vale have an awful recent home record against the Alex. It’s three games since Vale’s last home win which came back in 2010. The Valiants had Anthony Griffith sent-off that day but won 2-1 thanks to goals from Louis Dodds and Marc Richards.
- The clubs first met competitively way back in 1892
- That first game ended in a comprehensive 4-1 win for Vale
- However, Crewe bounced back winning the return game 5-0
