Two goals from Louis Dodds and another from JJ Hooper enabled Vale to win their home fixture against near-neighbours Crewe.
Rob Page made one change with Michael O’Connor coming in for Byron Moore. The Vale got off to a great start when Louis Dodds notched his seventh of the season just three minutes into the game. But that early drama apart, the first-half was a dour affair.
The Valiants had further chances for Leitch-Smith and Foley but had to wait until seven minutes from time before Dodds doubled his and Vale’s tally for the day.
The Valiants wrapped up the win with sub JJ Hooper’s second in two games – a curling strike that beat Ben Garrett.
It was a comprehensive win for the Valiants and a welcome response to the disappointing defeat to Chesterfield.
