Norm in the USA: Vale owner jets out for takeover talks
The Staffordshire Sentinel reports that Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite is to visit the USA for “crucial” takeover talks.
Smurthwaite put the club up for sale in late 2015 but one potential bidder has already pulled out despite paying a deposit to be the preferred bidder.
If the discussions with the USA consortium are not fruitful then the club will be taken off the market because of the uncertainty it has been causing…
According to the newspaper, a US consortium is the only other realistic bidder and if a deal cannot be agreed by the end of this week, the club would be taken off the market.
Smurthwaite told the newspaper: “I am flying out of the country on Wednesday and coming back on Friday.
“If the discussions with the USA consortium are not fruitful then the club will be taken off the market because of the uncertainty it has been causing.
“I am also looking to spend money to bring someone in but that will be determined by Friday.”
