Page: Unacceptable and unprofessional
Port Vale manager Rob Page has blasted his players after conceding that the performances against Maidenhead were “not acceptable by a long shot.”
Vale were held to a shock 1-1 draw in the FA Cup first-round and Page told the media afterwards: “The second-half performance was not acceptable by a long shot. The only positive we can take out of this is we are still in the draw.
The second-half performance was not acceptable by a long shot. The only positive we can take out of this is we are still in the draw…
“We did everything in our power this week to make sure that their mindset was not to underestimate them for one minute. They are unbeaten in eight, had won their last six and kept four clean sheets. Their wide right scored a hat-trick last week and their wide left has just won player of the month.
“So, whatever you do, we said, don’t underestimate them – but in the second half we did exactly that.
“That’s what hurts me. That’s what really upsets me, that I have a group of professionals that go out and can’t finish a game off in the 94th minute. With 30 seconds to go, you should see the game out and we weren’t professional enough to do it.”
