Former Valiants: Veseli’s International debut and other far-flung players
In this occasional feature we look at where some former Vale players are now plying their trade…
Freddie Veseli
In July 2015, Veseli rejected a contract offer from Port Vale and instead signed a 12-month deal with Swiss Super League side Lugano. He’s a regular in their side with 15 appearances so far. He’s also become a full International – making his debut for Albania in a November friendly against Kosovo.
Mohamed Coulibaly
The Senegalise winger spent a spell on loan with Vale during the 2014-15 season. He was released by parent club Bournemouth at the end of the season and in July Coulibaly signed a two-year deal with Racing de Santander, newly relegated to Segunda DivisiĆ³n B. Racing are not enjoying a great season, lying in fifteenth place, but Coulibaly has been a regular performer with 15 appearances and three goals to his name.
Alex Nimely
After a controversial spell with the Valiants, the forward (right) was released at the end of the season. He is currently without a club although he did have a trial with Belgium club Sint-Truidense V.V.
Guy Madjo
The 31 year-old is another player without a club. He last played for Tranmere Rovers, under former boss Micky Adams before being released in January of this year.
Christian Smith
The former youth team graduate played just once for the Vale first-team before being released. After a somewhat nomadic non-league career, he has signed for Maidenhead United – the move ironically coming just a few days as Vale had dumped United out of the FA Cup.
Kaid Mohamed
The winger (right) has been something of a journeyman since his release by Vale in the summer. He started off at Welsh Premier side Port Talbot Town, joined Accrington Stanley for a spell and is now playing for Bath City.
Tom Taiwu
The then-Chelsea youngster was signed on loan by former Vale boss Lee Sinnott back in 2008. Taiwu arguably never fulfilled his potential and is now playing in the Falkirk midfield.
Tobias Mikaelsson
Another Lee Sinnott loan signing, Mikaelsson left Aston Villa to return to Sweden. He currently plays for Oddevold and boasts a useful two goals from four starts this season.
