Southend Utd 1-0 Port Vale
Port Vale lost out to a solitary second-half Southend United goal at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon.Manager Rob Page made two changes with Ryan McGivern and Chris Birchall starting in place of Remie Streete and Ryan McGivern.
Vale made a decent start but their shortcomings at set-plays came to the fore again as the home side struck the post from a corner. The Valiants hung on in what was an increasingly bad tempered first-half with players and both managers involved in arguments.
However, on the hour mark the home side took the lead when Pigott netted and Vale responded by bringing on Byron Moore for Chris Birchall. Moore did have a long-range effort but they were unable to net a crucial equaliser as they went home empty handed from Roots Hall.
