Burton fan TERRACEMAN57 has praise for Burton’s manager and chairman but has less happy memories of games at Vale Park… TERRACEMAN57 posts on the Burton Brewers forum and was speaking to REP.
About the fan:
I’m not far off fifty years following the club. I grew up in Wolverhampton but moved to Burton aged 9 or 10 and soon started attending the old Eton Park ground.
How do you expect your team to do this season?
Optimistically I hope we can push for a play-off spot, but realistically top half would be good.
Who should we watch out for?
On his day Nasser El Khayati can be unplayable…
It depends what line up we put out really. On his day Nasser El Khayati can be unplayable, Stuart Beavon is always useful up top and if fit Zeli Ismail can be a real handful while at the back John Mousinho is a colossus.
What are your thoughts on your manager?
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been sensational as manager. He obviously had a glittering career at the highest level but has proved himself very wise and a humble man.
His best signing in my opinion was his assistant David Oldfield and the two of them work very well together.
Player-wise, El Khayati signed from Dutch outfit Kozzaken Boys is proving to be a great acquisition but in the main the majority of the players were here under Gary Rowett, though the playing style and tactics have been tweaked.
What are your thoughts on your board?
Under his astute chairmanship the club have progressed beyond the supporters’ wildest dreams…
We are very fortunate to be owned by a fan and local business man Ben Robinson and under his astute chairmanship the club have progressed beyond the supporters’ wildest dreams. Along with the promotions a new stadium has come as well as income opportunities and a community trust scheme to be proud of.
The club have never spent what they did not have and consistently make a profit year-on-year.
Which one Vale player would you take past or present?
I always liked Robin Van der Laan, would have him in my midfield! Vale had a fair few good players in my younger days, Robbie Earle and Ian Taylor are two others that come to mind and for some reason I always remember Ken Beamish from the first time I ever saw Vale play! I can’t say there is anyone in the current squad I would take though.
How do you expect Vale to do this season?
If Vale could get some consistency then they could finish top-half or pushing for a play-off spot similar to ourselves as I think the league will be tight this season.
What is your team’s most memorable game with Vale?
Thankfully I didn’t finish work in time and missed the 7-1 thrashing at Vale park a couple of years ago. We don’t seem to do well in Boslem!
A score prediction?
I’ll go for a 0-0 as both teams cancel each other out.
