Thursday’s Cup draw could pit Vale against Stoke or another PL side
The draw for the second round of the Capital One Cup could result in unseeded Port Vale taking on neighbours Stoke City or another Premier League side.
Vale reached the second round after an excellent 1-0 win over Burnley.
The draw will take place live on Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports News following the conclusion of Thursday’s Doncaster Rovers versus Leeds United match.
The victorious teams from Round One will be joined by Premier League sides who aren’t competing in Europe. The draw will be seeded, with the 12 Premier League teams seeded alongside the top 12 winners from Round One.
Presuming that the seeding is based on league positions, with 12 Championship sides are already through, it means Vale are likely to be unseeded for the second round draw. Being unseeded will increase the chance of the Valiants facing a Premier League side and Vale could even face neighbours Stoke City (who will enter the draw at the second round stage) in the second round draw.
