Wrexham v Port Vale programme, 1952
In our latest programme review, we go all the way back to 1952 for one of the oldest programmes to feature in this series so far…
This is the programme for the league game between Wrexham and Port Vale held on November 29th 1952.
About the game…
Managed by Freddie Steele, the Valiants had just ended a fine run of twelve consecutive home wins. The squad was settled (just 19 players used that season) and things were looking up for the Vale.
However, this particular game ended in disappointment. Vale lost 3-1 with Ken Griffiths (right) on the scoresheet. Despite that result, Vale finished in second place in the table, a single point off promotion. However, this season did set the side up for the memorable and record-breaking 1953-54 season where they set seven club records, three Football League records and reached the semi-final of the FA Cup.
