Sam Foley was on target but Byron Moore missed a last-minute penalty as Port Vale lost their first friendly of the summer
The Valiants included new loan signing Ryan Inniss in their starting eleven but were rocked by an injury to key midfielder Michael O’Connor on five minutes. Seven minutes later, new signing Sam Kelly came close to opening his account for the club but his shot hit the post.
Ikpeazu went close on the half-hour mark but Vale were made to pay for their missed chances when Gary Madine gave the visitors the lead seven minutes before the break.
The Valiants brought on Remie Streete for Ryan Inniss at the break, but on the hour mark Madine grabbed his second and Bolton’s second of the night.
On 69 minutes, Sam Foley narrowed the deficit to 1-2 as he tucked away Moore’s cross-shot but despite Carl Dickinson hitting the crossbar, Vale could not grab the equaliser. In stoppage time, Vale were awarded a penalty as Moore was brought down but the winger took the spot-kick himself and hit the bar as it finished 1-2.
