Jack Simms player profile:
John Simms, known as Jack Simms, was a locally-born left-winger who began his career in the reserve side at Potteries neighbours Stoke City.
After a spell with Leek Town, he joined Port Vale FC in 1926. He made his debut in October 1926 playing in an away game against Portsmouth. He then scored his first goal for the club in a win over Oldham Athletic in November 1926.
The winger was a regular scorer for the Valiants, hitting 28 goals over three seasons. However during the 1929-30 season he was selected just three times as Port Vale were promoted to the Second Division.
After one more season for Vale when he was selected to play just one game he moved to Swansea Town in 1931 but he played just four games for the Welsh side. He later had spells with non-league sides Macclesfield Town, Winsford and Stafford Rangers.
