Tony Rougier player profile:
Tony Rougier was a Trinidad and Tobago International forward who was signed by Port Vale FC manager John Rudge in 1998. Rougier cost £175,000 from Scottish clubs Hibernian in January 1999 but soon afterwards manager John Rudge left his job. Rougier was then converted into a central forward by successor Brian Horton and finished as the top-scorer at the end of 1999-2000 with nine goals.
A regular for his country, he also became the club’s most-capped player until he was, in turn overtaken by Chris Birchall.
He was then sold to Reading on the eve of the 2000-2001 season for a fee of £325,000. He later had spells with Brentford and Bristol City before a move to China and a further move to the USA. He ended his playing career in 2005.
