Tony Kelly player profile:
Tony Kelly was a well-travelled midfield playmaker who was signed on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers in September 1994. However, his spell at Vale Park did not last long. The midfielder moved on to Millwall just two months later with Vale opting to bring in Ian Bogie from Kelly’s new club.
Kelly made just five appearances for the Valiants, scoring once in a 2-2 draw with Notts County. The journeyman had a lengthy career having had spells with Stoke City, Wigan Athletic and Shrewsbury Town before his move to Vale. He later moved on to Peterborough United, two further spells with Wigan and eventually finished his career with Sligo Rangers. His career spanned more than 500 games and a solitary promotion gained while at Bolton. He also won the Football League Trophy with Wigan in 1985. After retiring as a player, he later had a spell as a coach with Bolton.
