Steve Livingstone was a powerful young forward who joined John Rudge’s Port Vale FC on a month’s loan from Chelsea in September 1993.
A product of the Coventry youth system, the forward had begun his career at Coventry City where he had played for five years before joining Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £450,000. After two years at Ewood Park he subsequently joined Chelsea in 1993 for a fee of £350,000.
After finishing his loan spell at Vale Park, Livingstone joined Grimsby Town for £140,000. It was where he stayed for ten years making 334 appearances and scoring 54 goals. He also won promotion and the Football League Trophy while at Grimsby. He then finished off his Football League playin career with a brief spell at Carlisle United. He retired due to a back injury and ended his career with stats of 423 appearances and 77 senior goals.
