Ross Gardner was a midfielder who joined Port Vale FC on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Gardner had begun his career at Newcastle United where he had failed to make a first-team appearance. He moved on to Nottingham Forest in 2003 and made made 32 first-team appearances in a three year spell with the club.
He did enough during his loan spell to earn a short-term deal with Port Vale which would see him contracted for the remainder of the 2006-2007 season. However, at the end of the season he was one of a number of players released in the summer of 2007. He had played twenty games for the Valiants and scored once with his solitary strike coming against Leyton Orient in the league.
Following his release by the Valiants, he moved into the non-league with spells at Ilkeston Town, Eastwood Town and Shildon. He eventually retired from playing in 2012.
