Record-breaking goalkeeper Paul Musselwhite was the club’s most expensive goalkeeping signing at a mere £17,000 and he also holds the Port Vale club record for goalkeeping appearances.
Musselwhite was signed from Scunthorpe United in 1992 and was a regular first-team pick during the John Rudge era, Musselwhite was in goal for the Autoglass Trophy win and also helped the club to promotion in 1993-94. He was also in goal for several of the club’s cup giantkillings.
Musselwhite left in 2000 after the club was relegated and later joined Hull City as well as a second spell with Scunthorpe United.
He returned to Port Vale in 2007 to act as cover for the injured first choice keeper Mark Goodlad but left without making an appearance.
